A police constable was martyred after unidentified attackers opened fire on him in Bajaur’s Inayat Kallay Bazaar, police said.
According to police spokesperson Mansoor Khan, constable Rahmatullah, 34, was returning home to Laghari area of Lowi Mamund after completing his duty at Police Lines, Khar, when gunmen targeted him near a bus stand.
He sustained critical injuries and died while being taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, the spokesperson said.
Police personnel reached the site shortly after the attack and launched a search for the assailants, who fled the scene. An investigation is under way to determine the motive and identify those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Police sources said the killing came two days after the murder of local elder Malik Mazroof Khan in War Mamund and marked the third killing of a policeman in Bajaur within a week.
