Rana Sanaullah claims PML-N will secure two-thirds majority to form AJK government

PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has said the party will form the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with a two-thirds majority after the completion of the remaining phases of elections.

Addressing an election rally in Bagh ahead of Monday’s third phase of polling, Sanaullah said the PML-N had secured 24 seats in the first two phases and needed six more seats to achieve a two-thirds majority.

He said the party expected to win four additional seats in the August 10 polls, with another five seats expected from the remaining areas of Poonch Division once elections are held there.

“The PML-N will form a government with a two-thirds majority,” Sanaullah said, claiming that voters in Kashmir had placed their trust in the party, its leader Nawaz Sharif and its development record in Punjab.

He urged voters in Bagh to turn out in large numbers and support the PML-N, saying a party-led government would prioritise development projects across the region.

Sanaullah also pledged that a future PML-N government would engage with representatives of the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to address its demands, including the abolition of 12 seats in the AJK legislature reserved for refugees from Indian-held Kashmir.

He described the majority of JAAC protesters as “patriotic Kashmiris and Pakistanis” and said the government would work with the people of AJK to counter elements seeking to create divisions.

The PML-N leader also claimed that major development projects in AJK had historically been completed when his party was in power both at the federal and regional levels.

He called on residents of Bagh to vote in Monday’s election, saying the district should have a role in the future government.

Sanaullah further said Nawaz Sharif would honour his commitments to the people of AJK by selecting one of the three PML-N candidates contesting from Bagh as the region’s next prime minister.

According to Sanaullah, Nawaz Sharif has also expressed his intention to meet the future AJK prime minister to discuss development projects in the region.
