Family Approaches LHC Seeking Access to Hammad Azhar

A family member of a detained political leader has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking permission to meet him during his police custody.

The petition stated that a formal request for a family visit had earlier been submitted before the trial court. However, the trial court disposed of the request without issuing a binding order and forwarded the matter to the police.

According to the petition, an accused person has the legal right to consult with their legal team and meet family members while in custody.

The petitioner has asked the LHC to intervene and direct the relevant authorities to arrange a meeting with the detained leader during his police custody.

The political leader was arrested in Multan earlier this month and subsequently handed over to Lahore Police in connection with cases related to the May 9 unrest, including the attack on Jinnah House.
