Pakistan and France have discussed regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defence and security during a high-level meeting in Rawalpindi.
The talks covered matters of mutual interest, regional security and opportunities to expand cooperation in defence and security-related areas.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with France and enhancing cooperation in the defence and security sectors.
France acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability and expressed interest in expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The French General Secretariat for Defence and National Security is a central government body that supports the prime minister on defence and national security matters. Its responsibilities include strategic defence planning, military policy, deterrence, economic and energy security, cybersecurity, counterterrorism and efforts against foreign digital interference.
Separately, senior Pakistani and French officials held discussions on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two sides discussed the need to ensure the safety and free movement of maritime traffic and maintain uninterrupted energy supplies amid disruptions to oil shipments caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
They also emphasised continued diplomatic engagement and regional efforts to address the crisis and promote stability.
