During Her Imprisonment, Yasmin Rashid Creates Beautiful Hand Embroidery on Pillows and Sofa Cushions

Former Punjab health minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has created intricate hand embroidery on pillows and sofa cushions during her imprisonment. She has titled the collection “Beyond The Bars.”

The 76-year-old PTI leader and renowned gynaecologist celebrated her birthday on Sept 21. On the occasion, her artistic work, which surfaced on social media, drew attention to another creative side of her personality.

During her imprisonment, Dr Yasmin Rashid used colourful threads and needlework to create detailed embroidery designs on pillows and sofa cushions.

Her collection features a variety of designs, including elephants, horses, owls and cats, along with birds, butterflies, flowers, mountains and intricate floral patterns. The artwork reflects a wide range of colours and natural imagery.

Dr Yasmin Rashid has given each of her creations a separate title. In describing the collection, she said the work was created not in a studio but behind bars.

She described each stitch as a symbol of patience and every colour as a ray of hope. According to her, when time seems to stand still and the hands, mind and soul feel empty, creativity can become a source of strength and comfort.

She further wrote that when circumstances are beyond a person’s control, creative expression can provide solace, adding that one should maintain an unwavering belief that beauty can emerge even in the most difficult circumstances.

Dr Yasmin Rashid has also written a book, which is expected to be published soon.
