Saudi Arabia has invited United Arab Emirates Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit the kingdom, amid efforts to improve relations between the two countries following tensions over Yemen.
The invitation was extended by Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, who asked Sheikh Mansour to visit Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the Saudi Defence Ministry on X.
The development follows signs of improving ties between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. In July, senior officials and ministers from both countries shared messages highlighting friendship and unity on social media, signalling a thaw after a public dispute between the two states.
During the July rapprochement, Saudi General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Alalshikh also shared a photograph of Prince Khalid bin Salman alongside Sheikh Mansour, saying it had been taken several days earlier.
The renewed Saudi outreach comes as the kingdom faces continued attacks by the Houthis, who have targeted Saudi oil facilities, tankers, airports and the capital. The group has also expanded its control along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.
Saudi Arabia has been seeking greater support from international partners to address the situation in Yemen.
A source from the Yemeni leadership’s office said earlier this week that the Yemeni president had requested US support during a phone call with US President Donald Trump to counter the Houthi advance.
The New York Times reported that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also spoke with Trump on Sunday and sought US assistance in responding to the group’s advance.
