Deputy Director Accused of Assaulting Press Council Chairman Over Transfer Dispute

Pakistan Press Council Chairman Mohammad Arshad Khan Jadoon has registered a case against a deputy director and others following an alleged assault at the council’s office in Islamabad.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred at the council’s building in H-9 while Jadoon was engaged in official work. The deputy director allegedly entered his office accompanied by two men carrying weapons and attacked the chairman.

The complaint states that the attackers allegedly pointed a pistol at Jadoon and issued threats before physically assaulting him, leaving him injured and bleeding. It further alleges that an attempt was also made to stab him.

The chairman’s son, who was reportedly present in the office at the time, intervened and helped protect his father.

After hearing noises and calls for help, other council employees rushed towards the office. The attackers allegedly assaulted a staff member, identified as Tamour Kiani, who also sustained injuries.

The suspects subsequently left the premises, while the injured individuals were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Following the incident, the chairman lodged a case under Sections 506-II and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The allegations remain subject to investigation.
