Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to expand its fleet with the addition of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft next month, marking the introduction of the aircraft type to Pakistan’s aviation industry.
A PIA spokesperson said the acquisition reflects the airline’s new administration’s commitment to modernising passenger services and expanding its operations. The addition of the Dreamliners is expected to mark the beginning of a broader fleet expansion programme.
The airline aims to meet growing passenger demand by increasing capacity, introducing direct long-haul flights and strengthening international connectivity.
According to the spokesperson, the aircraft are expected to join PIA’s fleet next month and operate direct long-haul services between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, supporting flights connecting destinations in both countries.
The arrangement will allow PIA to expand its route network using modern aircraft, experienced crews, maintenance support and insurance services, while enabling Norse Atlantic Airways to redeploy aircraft returning to its fleet.
PIA Chief Executive Amir Hayat said the United Kingdom remained an important market for the national carrier.
He said the agreement would help the airline increase capacity on routes where additional services were needed, while offering passengers more travel options and improved connectivity between Pakistan and the UK.
Norse Atlantic Airways Chief Executive Eivind Roald said the company had been working to redeploy aircraft capacity through new aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) opportunities.
“As previously communicated, we have been working to redeploy capacity into new ACMI opportunities, and we are now executing that strategy,” Roald said.
The planned addition of the Dreamliners is expected to support PIA’s international expansion and strengthen its long-haul operations.
