Ex-Sindh minister seeks FIR against former wife over AI-edited images

Former Sindh minister Unnar has approached a sessions court seeking registration of an FIR against his former wife, Razia Arbab, under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), alleging that she used AI-edited images and social media posts to harass and threaten him.

In his petition, Mr Unnar said he met Ms Arbab through social media and later married her through a video call in the presence of witnesses after she proposed marriage. He said a dower of Rs100,000 was paid to her.

The former minister alleged that his wife kept her face covered during the ceremony and that he later discovered she had allegedly used filtered and AI-edited photographs before their marriage.

He said the couple subsequently separated and divorced, but alleged that his former wife continued posting false claims about his death and fabricated images on social media.

Mr Unnar further alleged that she demanded money from him and sent abusive and threatening messages through WhatsApp, warning that she would release his private videos or kill him if he failed to pay.

He asked the court to direct the relevant police station to register an FIR over the alleged online harassment, threats and dissemination of false information.

After hearing his arguments, Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Muhammad Aslam Sheikh issued notices to the SSP Complaint Cell, SHO Defence police station and the proposed accused. The respondents were directed to submit their replies by Aug 17.
