Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Umair Majeed Malik has observed that a mechanism is already in place for arranging meetings with former prime minister Imran Khan in jail, adding that any future requests would be considered under the existing procedure.
Justice Malik made the remarks while hearing a petition seeking permission for a meeting with the incarcerated PTI founder. Advocate Faisal Chaudhry appeared before the court during the proceedings.
The hearing also addressed objections raised by the IHC Registrar’s Office, which pointed out that a mechanism governing jail visits had already been established.
Justice Malik questioned the legal basis of the petitioners’ claim to a right to meet Imran Khan, while emphasising that the existing arrangement provided a procedure for submitting such requests.
In response, Advocate Faisal Chaudhry assured the court that the petitioners would fully comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines prescribed for jail visits. He also assured the court that no media statements would be issued after the meeting.
The judge reiterated that, under the existing court order, any future requests for meetings would be taken up and appropriate directions issued accordingly.
The petition was filed by former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Mahmood Baqi Molvi and Barrister Muhammad Ali Khan Saif.
