According to a report compiled by the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System of the Directorate General Health Services, teams have been deployed to districts reporting a higher incidence of the mosquito-borne disease.
The report said dengue larvae had been eliminated from 551 houses, 1,280 water containers and 247 outdoor sites to curb mosquito breeding.
More than 87,000 awareness sessions have also been held across the province, during which 254,116 female workers were trained to educate residents about dengue prevention.
Officials advised people to keep water containers covered, wear long-sleeved clothing and use mosquito nets to reduce the risk of infection.
Peshawar remained the worst-affected district with 152 cases, followed by Kohat with 85, Bannu with 19 and Haripur with 17. Peshawar and Kohat recorded 13 and 16 new cases respectively during the week.
Officials said the situation remained under control, with the Dengue Action Plan 2026 already being implemented. District committees are holding regular meetings and response teams are conducting contact tracing whenever new cases are reported.
However, officials expressed concern over what they described as an inadequate response from medical teaching institutions (MTIs), particularly in Peshawar, in sharing information about dengue patients.
They said the health department had repeatedly asked MTIs to provide patient lists and addresses to enable timely surveillance and preventive action, but cooperation remained limited.
Officials warned that the lack of coordination could increase the risk of an outbreak, particularly in Peshawar, which has remained endemic for dengue for nearly a decade.
So far, the department has recorded 1,761 suspected cases and detected mosquito larvae in 14 districts, which were subsequently eliminated.
Officials said dengue outbreak protocols and larval-source management activities had been intensified, but stronger coordination with MTIs was essential to prevent the situation from developing into a major health crisis.
