Army deployed in Rawalpindi for six months for security duties

The federal government has authorised the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months to assist with “sensitive security duties” and respond to any potential security situation.

According to an Interior Ministry order dated Aug 21, the deployment was approved following a request from the Punjab Home Department under Article 245 of the Constitution.

The order said the troops would be deployed to prevent any “undesirable situation” and respond effectively to unforeseen circumstances as required by the district administration.

Article 245 allows the armed forces to be deployed in aid of civil authorities.
