The armed forces have reaffirmed their resolve to combat terrorism and maintain lasting peace and stability across the country during a visit to Peshawar Corps Headquarters.
During the visit, the military leadership received a briefing on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management measures and the operational preparedness of security formations deployed in the province.
The security personnel were commended for their morale, readiness and professionalism, as well as their commitment to protecting the country and its people. Troops were directed to remain vigilant and maintain a high level of operational preparedness.
The armed forces reiterated that they would continue counterterrorism efforts with public support to eliminate militant threats and promote peace and stability across the country.
During the visit, a floral wreath was laid at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and prayers were offered for the martyrs. Tribute was also paid to those who lost their lives in the line of duty, with their sacrifices described as a lasting part of the country’s security efforts.
The visit came days after a major attack in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which 23 people were killed and around 100 others were injured. Security forces subsequently conducted an overnight clearance operation in the area, killing eight militants.
In a subsequent response, security forces carried out airstrikes on militant positions in the border region with Afghanistan, killing more than 28 militants. The strikes targeted hideouts and alleged safe havens of militant organisations linked to recent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Security forces also conducted an intelligence-based ground operation in Kohat and Hangu districts against a group of militants as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign.
The operations followed an exchange of fire involving a security forces convoy in Hangu, in which six security personnel, including two officers, were killed and eight militants were eliminated.
Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence in militant violence in recent years, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly called for action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory and have raised concerns over alleged cross-border attacks.
The government has maintained that efforts to strengthen border security and conduct counterterrorism operations will continue to prevent militant attacks and protect civilians and security personnel.
