Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia’s Sovereignty and Security

Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and the protection of Islam’s holiest sites as the kingdom marks its National Day on September 23.

The annual National Day commemorates the unification of Saudi Arabia in 1932 under the leadership of King Abdulaziz.

Pakistan also reiterated its condemnation of recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including an attempted drone attack on Makkah. The attacks on the Haramain Sharifain were described as a matter of concern for Muslims around the world.

Pakistan said it would continue to stand with Saudi Arabia in protecting its sovereignty, security and the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites.

The two countries have continued to strengthen their strategic partnership, with cooperation focused on peace, security and regional stability. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in September 2025, under which an attack on either country would be treated as an act of aggression against both.

A separate Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on August 7 also provides for an attack against one member to be treated as an attack against all participating states.

The renewed expression of support comes amid escalating tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have declared a maritime blockade targeting the kingdom and have carried out attacks involving vessels in the Red Sea.

Pakistan has also reiterated that its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security remains firm and that it would provide practical and diplomatic support if the conflict involving Yemen’s Houthis escalates.
