Bahrain’s foreign minister has congratulated Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on the signing of the Pakistan-Saudi-Turkiye joint defence agreement and expressed a desire to visit Pakistan.
According to the Foreign Office, the two ministers spoke by phone, during which the Bahraini official welcomed the Aug 7 agreement and conveyed his intention to visit Pakistan in the near future. Dar welcomed the proposed visit and appreciated his counterpart’s remarks.
The agreement aims to strengthen collective defence among the three countries and provides that an attack on any one signatory would be treated as an attack on all three.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy to promote regional and global peace and stability. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Dar have described the pact as defensive in nature.
The agreement has been welcomed by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, while Kuwait, Bahrain and Somalia have also expressed support. Iran has taken a positive view, emphasising the need for regional security mechanisms based on cooperation among neighbouring countries.
