Pakistan, Hong Kong sign customs cooperation agreement

Pakistan and Hong Kong have signed a customs cooperation arrangement aimed at strengthening coordination and mutual assistance in enforcing customs laws and facilitating international trade.

The agreement was signed during a virtual ceremony held at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) headquarters on Friday, with Member Customs Operations Shakeel Shah co-chairing the event.

Following the signing, copies of the instrument were exchanged between the head of Hong Kong Customs and Pakistan’s consul general in Hong Kong, formally completing the process.

The arrangement provides the customs administrations of both sides with a framework for enhanced cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs-related matters.

According to officials, the agreement is in line with internationally recognised customs cooperation standards promoted by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and reflects the two sides’ commitment to strengthening enforcement and securing international trade supply chains.

Mr Shah said greater cooperation between Pakistan and Hong Kong, particularly in the customs sector, would help build a long-term institutional relationship and enable both sides to address emerging challenges more effectively.

He said the arrangement would also contribute to improved revenue collection and trade facilitation, while assuring Hong Kong Customs of Pakistan Customs’ continued support in areas of mutual assistance and collaboration.

The agreement is expected to enhance the exchange of customs-related information and intelligence and contribute to a more secure and efficient international trading environment.
