Park Geonroung, the child star of the globally popular “Baby Shark Dance” video, has released his first K-pop digital single, nearly a decade after rising to fame.
Park, who appeared in the video at the age of seven, has made his solo debut under the stage name Baby Shark Boy with the backing of Pinkfong Company, which owns the copyright to “Baby Shark”.
The 2016 song and video have become a global phenomenon, with the video surpassing 17.2 billion views on YouTube, making it the platform’s most-watched video.
Park said the worldwide popularity of “Baby Shark” and continued recognition from audiences encouraged him to return to the spotlight through music.
His debut single, “WAVE”, begins with the familiar “Baby Shark” melody before transitioning into an electropop sound. Park also contributed to the song’s lyrics.
Since appearing in the viral video, Park has featured in other Pinkfong productions.
He described “WAVE” as the beginning of a broader musical career rather than a one-time project, saying he hopes to explore different aspects of himself through music and other forms of content.
