ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Development Working Party has approved several development projects, including the Rs24.5 billion 11th Avenue project and the construction of three sports arenas in the federal capital.
The 11th Avenue project involves construction of a 7.5-kilometre road connecting Margalla Avenue with IJP Road. According to the approved plan, the road will have three lanes on each side and is expected to be completed within one year of the start of construction.
The project will also include around 17 bridges and overpasses. The planned route will pass through areas between I-10 and I-11, G-10, G-11, F-10 and F-11 before connecting with the E-11 interchange.
The CDA-DWP also approved projects worth approximately Rs1 billion for three sports arenas in F-8, D-12 and G-11.
The F-8 Markaz sports arena has been allocated Rs307 million, while Rs327 million has been approved for the D-12/1 facility and Rs317 million for the proposed arena in G-11/3.
The sports facilities are planned to include swimming pools, indoor gyms, futsal courts, cricket cages, padel courts, basketball courts, multi-purpose sports halls and indoor play areas for children.
Officials said the facilities are intended to improve access to sports and recreational activities in Islamabad and provide spaces for youth training and coaching.
The 11th Avenue project was initially launched in 2023, when its foundation stone was laid, but construction did not begin.
Meanwhile, the CDA’s 10th Avenue project remains stalled after work was halted at around 50 per cent completion due to funding issues. Officials have said additional funding would be required to resume and complete the federally funded project.
