DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said Pakistan’s fight against terrorism is a long-term national challenge that cannot be compromised for political interests.
Addressing a press conference, he said different political groups could have different views on how to deal with terrorism, including the issue of engaging with the Afghan Taliban. However, he stressed that the country needed a clear and collective approach to counter the threat.
The military spokesperson said Pakistan had suffered heavily from terrorism over the past two decades, with more than 100,000 people losing their lives and the country facing significant economic and social consequences.
He referred to the National Action Plan and the subsequent Azm-i-Istehkam initiative as agreed frameworks developed through political consensus, urging stakeholders to follow them.
Lt Gen Chaudhry said terrorism posed a serious security challenge and noted that police, intelligence personnel and security forces continued to confront militants on a daily basis.
He stressed that political differences should not affect national efforts against terrorism, saying the campaign must continue regardless of political developments.
Responding to a question about the PTI’s planned Islamabad march, the DG ISPR said the military had no role in politics and that political matters should be handled by political parties.
