The Islamabad Police have issued a new policy restricting officers, officials and other personnel from using social media and publicly commenting on official matters without prior approval.
The policy was issued by the office of the Islamabad police chief and signed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Headquarters).
Under the policy, police officers and staff are prohibited from speaking at public forums in their official capacity, publishing articles in print media, expressing views or issuing official statements on social media platforms without prior permission.
The policy also prohibits personnel from making videos or taking photographs while wearing police uniforms for personal publicity or self-promotion. The restriction applies whether such activities take place inside government buildings, police vehicles or private locations.
Officers and personnel have also been barred from uploading, sharing or circulating confidential or official documents, photographs or related material on social media or other media platforms.
The policy further prohibits police personnel from expressing personal political or religious views through any media platform.
According to the directive, official information regarding police activities will only be disseminated through the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office.
Heads of units will be responsible for personally supervising and monitoring the activities of officers and personnel posted in their respective divisions, zones and units.
Officials found violating the policy will face departmental action under the relevant rules.
The policy has taken immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders. Personnel across all ranks have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new directives.
