OIC Meeting Urges Urgent Action on West Bank Settlements and Gaza Peace Plan

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Committee of Six on Palestine has called for renewed and coordinated diplomatic efforts to address the worsening humanitarian and security situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The committee stressed the need to maintain international attention on Palestinian rights and mobilise political and diplomatic support for the Palestinian people.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical, while the security environment across the occupied Palestinian territories continues to be fragile. Concerns were also raised over reported violations of the Gaza ceasefire and the need for stronger efforts to implement a comprehensive plan aimed at ending the conflict.

The committee welcomed mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye to advance a broader Gaza peace framework endorsed by the UN Security Council.

Particular concern was expressed over Israeli settlement expansion, settler violence, annexation policies and forced displacement in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem. The developments were described as threats to the territorial integrity and continuity of the Palestinian territories and to prospects for establishing a viable Palestinian state.

The committee also called for protection of the existing status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Haram Al-Sharif and other Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing the importance of respecting international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The meeting outlined several priorities for future diplomatic action, including:

  • Protecting the historical and legal status of holy sites in Jerusalem.
  • Opposing settlement expansion, annexation, settler violence and forced displacement in the occupied Palestinian territories.
  • Supporting full implementation of the Gaza peace plan and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
  • Ensuring that reconstruction and governance arrangements in Gaza remain Palestinian-led, with a central role for the Palestinian Authority.
  • Supporting accountability for alleged violations of international humanitarian and international law.
  • Strengthening coordination among OIC member states in international forums.
  • Pursuing a credible and time-bound political process leading to an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
  • Supporting full UN membership for Palestine.

The discussions took place amid continued settlement activity and reports of rising settler violence in the occupied West Bank. Recent plans for thousands of additional housing units in settlement areas have drawn criticism over their potential impact on the territorial continuity of a future Palestinian state.

International humanitarian assessments have also recorded a significant increase in settler-related incidents, including attacks causing Palestinian casualties and property damage, as well as displacement linked to violence and restrictions on access.

Separately, discussions were held with Libya on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in trade, education and business cooperation. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East.

The talks emphasised dialogue and diplomacy as key mechanisms for addressing regional challenges, with attention also given to previous proposals aimed at promoting regional stability.

Further discussions were held with Japan on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, healthcare, automobiles and digital technology. Regional developments and their potential impact on energy supplies, global supply chains and the wider economy were also discussed.

Both sides expressed support for continued diplomatic engagement and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
