Trump Administration Launches AI Chatbot for US Government Services

US President Donald Trump has launched a new AI-powered government platform, America.gov, aimed at making it easier for citizens to access federal services and information online.

The platform was developed under the leadership of Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, who joined the Trump administration last year as its chief design officer.

America.gov allows users to enter questions and interact with an AI chatbot. While its capabilities are currently limited, the administration says the platform could eventually handle more complex government-related tasks, including passport applications and access to health and retirement benefits.

Speaking at the launch event in Washington, Trump said the platform was intended to make government services faster and more convenient for Americans.

Trump also signed an executive order directing federal agencies to integrate their websites with America.gov.

The platform was launched as Trump prepared to meet senior technology executives to discuss developments in the artificial intelligence sector.

The rapid expansion of AI has also raised concerns over cybersecurity and safety following a series of incidents involving AI systems. Some technology executives have called for greater safeguards, while Trump has dismissed concerns that tighter restrictions could undermine US economic growth and competition with China.

AI development and the rapid expansion of data centres have also emerged as issues in the US political debate ahead of the November midterm elections.

A recent CNN poll found that 82 per cent of Americans expressed concern about the pace of AI development.
