Apple has said it will appeal a $5.7 billion patent infringement verdict, described as the largest of its kind in the country.
A jury ruled on Friday that Apple’s Taptic Engine, a technology that produces tapping and vibration sensations, infringed two patents held by Taction.
Apple rejected the finding, saying its Taptic Engine is fundamentally different from Taction’s technology. The company also said testing conducted during the trial supported its position.
“Apple does not use Taction’s technology, and we will appeal,” the company said in a statement.
Taction attorney Lance Yang welcomed the verdict, saying the company was pleased that the jury had upheld its patent rights.
Taction, which uses its patented technology in headphones and gaming headsets, filed the lawsuit in 2021. Apple denied the allegations and argued that the patents in question were invalid.
