Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens to a massive $927m global box office
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has grossed a massive $927 million worldwide in its opening weekend, including $355m in the US and Canada, making it the second-highest opening of all time both domestically and globally.
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in his fourth outing as Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya as MJ. The film explores Parker’s loneliness, friendship and search for human connection as he fights crime in a world that has forgotten his identity.
The film earned $572m internationally, with China contributing $121m, while Rentrak data showed it recorded the biggest domestic opening since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The movie trails only “Avengers: Endgame”, which opened to an inflation-adjusted $1.6bn globally, including $467m in the US and Canada.
The latest instalment has also received strong audience and critical response, scoring 90pc from critics and 98pc audience approval on Rotten Tomatoes. The Spider-Man franchise is now nearing $10bn in unadjusted global theatrical revenue.
Its success has further boosted the summer box office alongside hits such as “Toy Story 5” and “The Odyssey”. However, year-to-date US box office revenue remains 16pc below 2019 levels despite being 10pc higher than last year.
