Shafique, Babar Lead Pakistan’s Strong Reply Against West Indies in Second Trinidad Test

Abdullah Shafique hit his sixth Test century while Babar Azam moved closer to a hundred as Pakistan reached 266-2 in response to West Indies’ first-innings total of 344 on the second day of the second Test in Trinidad on Monday.

Shafique remained unbeaten on 107 off 185 balls, striking 10 fours and two sixes, while Babar was not out on 86 from 126 deliveries, with 10 fours and a six. The pair shared an unbeaten 168-run third-wicket partnership.

Shafique, recalled after Shan Masood’s finger injury, made an immediate impact at No. 3, scoring his sixth Test century. He had earlier added 64 runs with debutant opener Azan Awais, who scored 55 off 71 balls before being dismissed lbw to spinner Jomel Warrican.

Babar also settled quickly as Pakistan’s top order capitalised on favourable batting conditions. Their strong response came after Pakistan were bowled out for 120 in the fourth innings of the first Test, which West Indies won by 90 runs.

West Indies, meanwhile, added 109 runs to their overnight total in the morning session to reach 344. Justin Greaves top-scored with 73 before being dismissed by Ali Usman, while captain Roston Chase made 70. Ubaid Shah bowled Chase, while Sajid Khan claimed the final three wickets to finish with 4-85.
