PESHAWAR: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar announced the annual Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results on Tuesday, with around 30 per cent of Class 10 students and nearly 60pc of Class 9 students failing to pass.
Around 30 per cent of Class 10 students who appeared in the annual Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar failed, while the pass rate among Class 9 students stood at just 40 per cent, according to the results released Tuesday.
Of the 95,496 Class 10 candidates, 66,988 passed while 27,788 were unsuccessful. Among 97,950 Class 9 students, only 39,103 passed, leaving 57,847 unsuccessful in one or more subjects. However, they have been promoted to Class 10 and will be required to clear the failed subjects in the SSC-II annual examination.
The Class 10 pass rate was highest among regular female students in the Science Group at 84.95pc, followed by regular male Science students at 69.71pc. In the Arts Group, the pass rates were 64.86pc for girls and 36.39pc for boys.
Peshawar Model Girls High School-II, Dalazak Road, secured all three top positions in the overall examination. Omama Ali topped the board with 1,182 marks, followed by Syed Atika Shah with 1,178 and Hareem Khan with 1,177.
Among special-needs students, Mehmood Ayaz Khankhail of Umeed Special Education School secured first position with 1,060 marks, while Rabia Bibi and Mohammad Azan Khalid took second and third positions with 1,052 and 1,051 marks, respectively.
Meanwhile, the BISE Abbottabad announced its matriculation results, with 57,952 of 72,677 candidates passing, recording an overall success rate of 80.08pc. The board said 11,307 students secured A+ grades and 16,301 obtained A grades.
Girls dominated the Arts Group, with Zainab Bibi of Government Girls High School Baldher, Haripur, securing first position with 1,131 marks. Zainab Tahir and Khansa Bibi took second and third positions with 1,075 and 1,072 marks.
In the Science Group, Ayesha Zeb of Tameer-e-Wattan School and College, Mansehra, topped with 1,167 marks, followed by Fatima Jadoon of its Abbottabad branch with 1,163 and Uswa Mehreen of the Mansehra branch with 1,160 marks.
The Peshawar results were announced at an award ceremony attended by Education Secretary Mohammad Khalid, BISE Peshawar Chairman Khuda Bakhsh, Controller of Examinations Inamullah Shah, position holders, teachers and parents.
