Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday directed authorities to conduct an impact assessment of sewerage and drainage projects and prepare a survey of dilapidated buildings across the province.
Chairing a meeting to review progress on the programme, the chief minister received a briefing on ongoing development schemes, with deputy commissioners from across Punjab participating via video link.
The meeting reviewed progress on projects under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP) in several districts, including Vehari, Burewala, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala, Jalalpur Jattan, Sambrial, Muridke, Khudian, Kabirwala, Chak Jhumra, Bhalwal and Attock.
Ms Nawaz directed officials to prepare a case study of Phase-I of the PDP and compile public feedback on the programme. Progress reports on projects in Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi and Sialkot were also presented.
The meeting was informed that underground storage tanks had become fully operational in 29 cities, while construction was ongoing in another 21.
The chief minister said newly installed sewerage systems had significantly improved drainage in several cities. She also praised deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) officials and Suthra Punjab teams for their performance during the monsoon.
She commended the officers and staff who worked around the clock to facilitate residents during the rainy season.
