Google has reported network failures affecting multiple cloud services in Europe, with the disruption impacting several businesses and online platforms, including British digital bank Revolut.
Revolut confirmed that it was experiencing interruptions to several services, while a source familiar with the matter attributed the problems to the Google Cloud outage.
In a service update, Google said multiple services were experiencing elevated error rates and intermittent network failures in the europe-west2 region, which covers its London data centre.
The disruption was first reported at 06:08 GMT on Tuesday, according to Google.
Internet monitoring platform Downdetector recorded hundreds of complaints about services provided by British lenders Lloyds Bank and HSBC, as well as property website Rightmove and postal operator Royal Mail.
A spokesperson for Revolut said the company had been working to resolve the issue since it was identified.
The bank apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience and assured them that their money and personal data remained secure.
“We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe,” the spokesperson said.
Google said its engineering team was continuing to investigate the incident. However, the company had not disclosed the cause of the network disruption in its latest service update.
The outage highlights the potential impact of disruptions to major cloud infrastructure providers, whose services support a wide range of financial institutions, businesses and digital platforms.
