Pakistan and China Call for Stronger Cooperation Between Foreign Ministries

Pakistan and China have agreed to deepen cooperation between their foreign ministries, with a particular focus on media engagement, strategic communication and public diplomacy to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The discussions took place during the latest round of the Spokespersons’ Dialogue, co-led by Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan and Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, both sides highlighted the need for closer coordination, regular consultations and increased exchanges to promote mutual understanding and reinforce the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

The two delegations expressed satisfaction with the existing level of cooperation between their foreign ministries and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular engagement through the spokespersons’ dialogue mechanism.

During her visit, Mao Ning also met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, with the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan in attendance.

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its all-weather strategic cooperative partnership with China, describing the relationship as one built on mutual trust, respect and consistent support for each other.

He also emphasised the importance of expanding media collaboration, improving strategic communication and promoting public diplomacy to advance bilateral ties and strengthen people-to-people connections.

In a separate statement on social media platform X, the Foreign Office said Dar welcomed regular consultations and exchanges between Islamabad and Beijing at various levels. He noted that the spokespersons’ dialogue serves as an important platform for improving media cooperation, enhancing mutual understanding and bringing the people of both countries closer.

Pakistan and China maintain a longstanding strategic partnership spanning trade, energy, defence, infrastructure and regional connectivity. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) remains a key component of their shared development agenda.

The previous round of the spokespersons’ dialogue was held virtually in 2022. It was led by then-Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad and Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.

The earlier discussions focused on bilateral relations, the roles of spokespersons’ offices, media cooperation and opportunities for future collaboration.
