Israeli air strikes killed eight Palestinians, including five police officers, in separate attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical officials and the territory’s interior ministry.
Medical workers said three people were killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza City.
The interior ministry reported that five police officers were killed in a separate strike in western Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza. The Israeli military said it had targeted several militants in Khan Yunis but did not immediately comment on the reported strike in Gaza City.
Israel has intensified its attacks on Hamas in recent weeks, accusing the group of rebuilding its military capabilities and carrying out attacks in violation of a ceasefire agreement reached a year ago.
Hamas has denied attempting to launch attacks or rebuild its weapons stockpile, while accusing Israel of undermining the ceasefire arrangement.
The ceasefire, brokered by the United States last year, envisaged the eventual reconstruction of Gaza. However, progress has remained limited as negotiators have failed to reach an agreement on Hamas’s disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Israeli forces have ordered residents to leave areas covering approximately two-thirds of the territory, leaving most of Gaza’s population of more than two million people concentrated in the remaining areas.
The majority are living amid widespread destruction, with many taking shelter in makeshift tents and damaged buildings.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli military operations have continued across the enclave. According to the figures cited in the report, Israeli forces have killed at least 1,500 Palestinians in Gaza since the truce came into effect.
