AI Hackathon Aims to Improve Patient Care Across the Kingdom

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center hosted the Future of Nursing: AI and Innovation hackathon on November 1-2, bringing together 21 selected projects from 75 submissions across Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region.

The event aimed to empower nurses to apply artificial intelligence and digital technologies to address everyday challenges in patient care and the workplace, with a focus on improving patient safety, enhancing healthcare quality and promoting workforce sustainability.

Nurses, healthcare professionals and specialists in technology and artificial intelligence collaborated to develop practical prototypes under the guidance of clinical and technical experts. Participants also had access to prototyping laboratories and 3D printing facilities, while sessions were conducted both in person in Riyadh and online for participants joining from other locations.

Organized in strategic partnership with the Center of Digital Entrepreneurship, the hackathon’s projects are scheduled to be evaluated on November 10. The assessment will focus on their potential impact, innovation, feasibility and scalability.

The winning projects will have opportunities for incubation and further development, helping them progress towards testing and potential implementation in healthcare settings.

The initiative forms part of the hospital’s broader efforts to promote innovation in nursing and equip healthcare professionals with the tools to develop practical solutions to workplace challenges, ultimately improving patient experiences and the quality of healthcare services.
