Lahore Gymkhana Suspends Member Over Alleged Misconduct at Club

The Lahore Gymkhana administration has suspended a club member following a viral social media video showing individuals allegedly involved in a disturbance at the premises.

Club Chairman Salman Saddique said the suspension was in line with the club’s standard operating procedures, which allow disciplinary action in cases of serious misconduct by members, whether inside or outside the club.

He said a three-member standing discipline committee, comprising senior independent club members, had been formed to investigate the incident.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the suspended member allegedly misbehaved with club staff and threw plates at fellow members following a dispute over a guest-related issue.

The incident drew condemnation from club members, who called for the matter to be referred to the executive committee for strict action against those responsible. They also demanded measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Separately, the Lahore Gymkhana has also come under scrutiny over a controversy surrounding the lease of its land.

Last month, the Punjab Assembly’s Special Committee summoned senior provincial government officials to explain the annual rent of just Rs5,000 being charged from the club, which occupies more than 100 acres of prime government land in Lahore.

The committee sought the original approval documents and the legal basis for the lease arrangement.

During a meeting chaired by MPA Samiullah Khan, members expressed serious concerns over the nominal rent and the renewal of the club’s lease for another 50 years in 2000, despite the previous lease agreement still being in effect at the time.
