Bulgaria’s president and prime minister have strongly condemned recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed their country’s solidarity with the Kingdom during separate meetings with Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud in Sofia on Wednesday.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, discussions between Prince Abdulaziz, Bulgarian President Iliana Yotova and Prime Minister Rumen Radev focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding security cooperation between the two countries.
Both Bulgarian leaders reiterated their support for Saudi Arabia amid continued attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement.
During his meeting with President Yotova, Prince Abdulaziz conveyed greetings from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He also congratulated her on winning the presidential election.
Yotova, who had been serving as acting president since January, became Bulgaria’s first woman elected to the presidency after securing 57.6 per cent of the vote in the November 1 runoff election.
Prince Abdulaziz’s visit comes amid repeated missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia by the Iran-backed Houthi movement, which have drawn condemnation from the international community.
