Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the progress and transparency of the fuel subsidy programme, highlighting increased registrations and the disbursement of financial assistance to millions of deserving citizens.
Chairing a meeting to review the programme’s implementation, the prime minister said simplifying the registration and subsidy disbursement procedures had encouraged more people to register, allowing a greater number of eligible citizens to benefit from the initiative, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
He described the technology-based and transparent subsidy mechanism as a potential “game changer” for future public welfare initiatives.
The prime minister also commended Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima, Federal Secretary Zarar Hashim Khan and their team for developing an effective monitoring and dashboard system to oversee the programme.
During the meeting, officials informed participants that a total of 15,519,282 citizens had registered under the scheme. These included approximately 15.06 million motorcycle owners and 449,000 owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
Officials further reported that 63,153,685 fuel tokens had been issued, of which 59,445,347 had been utilised.
As of November 4, 2026, a total of Rs28.6 billion had been disbursed under the fuel subsidy programme.
The meeting was also informed that dedicated call centres had been established for consumers and petrol pump operators to provide programme-related information and address complaints.
Prime Minister Shehbaz announced the relief initiative in September for owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
Under the scheme, owners of two- and three-wheeled vehicles are entitled to a subsidy of Rs100 per litre on a monthly fuel quota of 20 litres. Meanwhile, owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc can receive the same subsidy on a monthly quota of 30 litres.
