Bugti, Maryam Nawaz Agree to Enhance Cooperation on Safe City Projects in Balochistan

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two provinces to improve security systems and expand Safe City initiatives across Balochistan.

Following a request from Chief Minister Bugti, Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant authorities in Punjab to provide institutional and technical support to strengthen the Balochistan Safe City Authority.

Under the proposed collaboration, the Safe City authorities of both provinces will work together to enhance security monitoring systems, provide technical assistance, train personnel, build institutional capacity and exchange expertise.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting of the Balochistan Safe City Authority chaired by Chief Minister Bugti. Additional Chief Secretary Home Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat briefed participants on ongoing projects, stating that Safe City initiatives were being implemented in nine cities across the province.

Punjab Safe City Authority Director General Ahsan Younas assured the meeting that his organisation would extend technical assistance to Balochistan. The support will include staff training, capacity building and the transfer of modern expertise to ensure the effective implementation and operation of the projects.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Bugti said Safe City projects were not limited to surveillance systems but represented a key component of modern security infrastructure designed to protect citizens and their property.

He emphasised that advanced technology and efficient monitoring systems were essential for maintaining law and order, preventing crime and ensuring a secure environment for the people of Balochistan.

According to the chief minister, modern surveillance technology would help authorities track the movement of criminal elements, identify suspicious activities promptly and improve the response capabilities of law enforcement agencies.

Bugti also appreciated the cooperation extended by the Punjab chief minister and the Punjab Safe City Authority, saying collaboration and the exchange of institutional experience between provinces would help achieve common public safety goals.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove, Balochistan Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Hamza Shafqaat, Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir Khan, Balochistan Safe City Authority Director General Muhammad Ashfaq, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon, Finance Secretary Jahangir Khan, IT Secretary Ayaz Khan Mandokhail and other senior officials.
