Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari spent Monday afternoon denying he was engaged to anyone named “Princess Gloria”.
The viral engagement reports originated from online claims asserting that he was set to marry into a prominent Austrian royal family in Vienna later this year. Social media users speculated that President Asif Ali Zardari and other family members had personally travelled to Austria to finalise the arrangements and set a wedding date, linking the politician to Liechtenstein and Austrian lineage.
Addressing the flurry of memes and viral chatter, Bilawal took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight:
Whereas X’s users spent Monday afternoon deciding that didn’t matter, the memes had already started days before the denial, and his statement only threw fuel on the fire.
By the time Bilawal went on record to say he’d never heard of any Princess Gloria, the internet had already cast her.
