The families of three Pakistanis killed by Somali pirates have each received financial assistance worth Rs26 million under special directives issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a statement from the Governor House.
The cheques were handed over to the families of Mahmood Ahmed Ansari, Syed Kashif Umar and Rafiullah Khan.
The statement said the bereaved families expressed gratitude to the prime minister, acknowledging the government’s support during their difficult time.
Last week, Shehbaz announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased, along with free housing and education for their children.
According to a Governor House spokesperson, the prime minister had announced Rs12.5 million in financial assistance and a plot for each family.
“Cheques for Rs12.5m and Rs13.5m for plot purchase have been presented to each family,” the spokesperson said.
The total assistance of Rs26 million per family comprises direct financial support and funds allocated for purchasing a plot.
