India’s Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out of Sri Lanka Tests, Auqib Nabi Receives Maiden Call-Up

NEW DELHI: India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of this month’s two-Test series against Sri Lanka as he continues his recovery from a left knee injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday.

Bumrah was initially named in India’s squad subject to a fitness assessment after suffering the knee injury while fielding during an ODI against England in Cardiff in July. He had been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

However, persistent discomfort forced him to withdraw from the squad, with uncapped fast bowler Auqib Nabi named as his replacement.

The 29-year-old Nabi earned his maiden senior call-up after an impressive domestic run, claiming 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. He took 60 wickets in the 2025-26 campaign, helping Jammu and Kashmir secure their first Ranji Trophy title.

Nabi also represented India A on their tour of Sri Lanka in June-July, taking six wickets in two first-class matches. He becomes the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for India’s senior Test squad.

The BCCI said batter Sai Sudharsan’s participation remains subject to fitness clearance. India will open the two-Test series in Galle on August 15, with the second Test scheduled in Colombo from August 23.
