Man arrested for allegedly trading rare turtles online in Lahore

The Indian flapshell turtle is a freshwater species native to South Asia. It gets its name from the femoral flaps on its plastron, which protect its limbs when it retracts into its shell.

An FIR was registered against the suspect at Baghbanpura police station in Lahore.

In a separate case, Burki Hadyara police registered an FIR against a suspect allegedly involved in illegal bird netting in Lahore’s Cantonment tehsil, while an alleged illegal bird hunter in Chunian tehsil was fined Rs20,000.

Wildlife officials in Bahawalnagar also arrested two people for allegedly hunting wild pigeons and recovered an air gun. One of the hunters was fined Rs40,000.

During another raid in Minchinabad tehsil, officials recovered four wild parrots, a Raa parrot and a grey francolin. An FIR was registered against the accused.

In Rajanpur, Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Saima Mohsin and her team recovered two illegal nets allegedly used to capture quails and initiated legal proceedings against those involved.

Meanwhile, Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger Mirza Abid Hussain led two separate operations in which two people allegedly involved in the illegal trade of wild birds were arrested and fined a combined Rs90,000.

In Kallar Kahar, wildlife officials also reclaimed 174 kanals and 17 marlas of land designated for the Wildlife Line, Command and Control Centre, Salt Range and Wildlife Protection Centre from illegal occupants.
