Edhi said the injured included 10 women, 17 children and 59 men. Of the total, 24 people one woman, four children and 19 men were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Another 35 injured, including four women, three children and 28 men, were taken to Jinnah Hospital, while 26 others 10 children, four women and 12 men were shifted to Civil Hospital. One woman was later transferred to a private hospital.
According to Edhi, aerial firing incidents were reported in Lyari, Saddar, Korangi, Malir, Azizabad, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulbahar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Jamshed Quarters and Defence.
Meanwhile, Karachi police’s East district launched a crackdown against aerial firing on Independence Day, arresting 10 suspects from different areas.
Police said weapons allegedly used in aerial firing were also recovered from the suspects. The arrests were made within the jurisdictions of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Sharea Faisal, Sachal, Gulistan-i-Johar and Site Super Highway police stations.
Police in Karachi’s West district separately arrested three suspects for allegedly resorting to aerial firing.
Despite repeated bans, aerial firing remains common during celebrations such as Independence Day and New Year’s Eve, frequently resulting in injuries.
Last year, celebratory gunfire across Karachi on the eve of Independence Day left three people, including a minor girl, dead and more than 100 others injured.
