American singer Olivia Rodrigo became the latest global star to bring Palestinian craftsmanship into the fashion spotlight, wearing a handmade dress featuring traditional tatreez embroidery at her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival. She joined a list of other celebrities who have used fashion as a symbol for the Palestinian cause.
According to, the Grammy-winning singer wore a custom pale pink mini dress by Palestinian fashion label Nöl Collective during a press presentation ahead of the festival at Great Park in Irvine, California.
The handmade piece featured embroidered birds and interconnected daisy chains, a fitting nod to the women-led festival’s name and wider themes. Olivia paired the look with vintage Gucci Mary Jane heels and a silver pendant.
Nöl Collective, founded by Palestinian-American designer Yasmeen Mjalli, based in Ramallah, works with family-run sewing workshops, artisan studios and women’s cooperatives across Palestine. The label places traditional craftsmanship, including tatreez embroidery, handweaving and natural dyeing, at the centre of its work.
While the singer’s dress drew attention for its craftsmanship, she is not the first public figure to use fashion as a means to draw attention to Palestinian culture and heritage amid the region’s ongoing crisis.
Bella Hadid and the keffiyeh dress
Few celebrities have brought Palestinian heritage to the fashion conversation as consistently as model Bella Hadid.
At the the Palestinian-Dutch supermodel wore a vintage red-and-white dress made from keffiyeh fabric, transforming one of the world’s most photographed events into a moment of cultural expression
According to Vogue, the dress was originally created in 2001 by design duo Michael and Hushi. Its distinctive chequered fabric echoed the keffiyeh, a symbol of Palestinian identity and solidarity.
Cate Blanchett’s debated Cannes statement
Australian actor Cate Blanchett also sparked discussion at Cannes in 2024 when she appeared in a custom gown that many interpreted as a subtle visual reference to the Palestinian flag.
Cate wore a with a green panel and a pale pink section at the back. When photographed against the red Cannes carpet, many social media users interpreted the resulting combination of colours as a gesture of solidarity with Palestine.
However, Cate herself did not publicly confirm that the ensemble was intended as a pro-Palestine statement.
What is less ambiguous is the actor’s wider public advocacy. As a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, she has previously spoken about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for a ceasefire.

Palestinian-Jordanian-Canadian actor Saja Kilani made one of the most direct recent tributes to Palestinian heritage on the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet.
The Voice of Hind Rajab actor wore a custom black gown by Jordanian designer Reema Dahbour inspired by the traditional Palestinian thobe.
