The Punjab government has decided to establish Parks and Horticulture Authorities (PHAs) in every district of the province to improve urban landscapes, expand green spaces and enhance public parks.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Friday, where officials briefed the chief minister on the performance of existing PHAs and plans to expand their operations across Punjab.
The meeting was informed that PHAs were already operational in 10 districts, while new authorities had been established in 11 additional districts.
The provincial government also approved recruitment for 2,820 technical positions within the authorities, including managing directors, directors and district-level technical staff.
During the second phase, the government plans to establish PHAs in every tehsil of Punjab.
The chief minister directed the authorities to prepare district-specific resource plans and launch phased plantation campaigns across tehsils, cities, towns and villages.
She also instructed officials to develop monthly schedules for planting seasonal flowers and introduce key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the performance of PHA officials.
The meeting further decided to establish in-house nurseries in every district to supply plants at affordable prices for plantation drives and seasonal floral displays.
The meeting approved designs for PHA food courts and discussed plans to introduce uniform branding for authority staff and vehicles.
The chief minister directed officials to ensure that trees and flowers were planted in all available vacant spaces. She also called for standardised planters and flowerpots across cities throughout the province.
Each PHA has been assigned targets to improve urban landscapes, beautify parks and rehabilitate greenbelts as part of the province-wide initiative.
