emember that time we said the for Faysal Quraishi’s upcoming film Mango Jutt had him looking like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn rolled into a Pakistani police officer? Well, the trailer came out on Wednesday and it’s somehow even weirder.
It starts with Quraishi’s Murad Jutt — lovingly called Mango Jutt because he’s “both sweet and pretty” — beating some goons with his mad baton skills.
After hitting four guys, Jutt gets hold of a couple of machetes and immediately uses them to slice a fifth guy’s shirt clean off — ninja style.
There is, of course, more to our story’s swashbuckling hero than just his prowess with knives and we get to see that later in the trailer.
But first, the cop — who appears to be working with the Sindh Police, judging by his uniform — is called to Lahore to take care of his nephew and nieces. Before he goes on leave, he’s given one last task: he must try to find the elusive, Lahore-based boss of the thugs he just pureed.
In Lahore, he meets his sister’s friend — presumably named Noor Jehan — played by Quraishi’s co-lead and the film’s producer Hareem Farooq.
In what appears to be another page out of the Bollywood playbook, he lays eyes on her, it’s suddenly raining, there are backup dancers and a voice — that surely cannot be Quraishi’s — says, “After seven full years, my heart is dancing today.”
After some of Jutt’s attempts at flirting go — understandably — awry, we’re surprised to see him in a scene looking at Noor Jehan with the same look a boy would give his first crush and saying, “They’re talking about getting us married.” The girl, clearly, is not interested.But the story continues and she eventually falls for him — and maybe his crime fighting skills. That’s when we get to see Shamoon Abbasi — the antagonist — and his band of irregular thugs and ruffians with terrible hairlines.One of the miscreants also wants to marry Noor Jehan, who says she’d “rather have my face beaten in than marry that guy”. Jutt, being ever the chivalrous gentleman, literally shakes her back to her senses and says, “Look! When you turn around, you’ll see me right behind you.”
There’s a bit more romantic back and forth between the two and the trailer closes on a scene where Abbasi is dragging Noor Jehan away as his henchman hold Jutt down — the perfect opportunity for him to muster up his strength and toss them all away like Salman Khan or Ajay Devgn…
The film releases in theatres on October 16. The cast also includes Ayesha Jehanzeb, Qaiser Piya, Honey Albela and Maira Bangash.
