Traders assured of action against cybercrime

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has assured the business community in Quetta of action against cybercrime and financial fraud involving mobile phones, social media and digital payment platforms.

NCCIA Quetta Additional Director Khalid Baqi said most gangs involved in financial scams through mobile phones and social media were operating from southern Punjab and riverine areas.

Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) President Ahmed Gul Kakar, Senior Vice President Mirza Khan Khilji, Vice President Jangiyan Dashti and other office-bearers and members attended the meeting.

Baqi said around 2,000 inquiries were currently pending with the NCCIA and were being processed. He also noted that none of the suspects nominated in 158 cases were from Balochistan.

Representatives of the QCCI said members of the business community had suffered losses amounting to millions of rupees through online banking, microfinance services and other digital payment channels.

They expressed concern over the growing use of fraudulent accounts and social media platforms for blackmail, character assassination and financial exploitation.

The business community proposed establishing a joint team comprising representatives of the QCCI, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and NCCIA to ensure swift action on complaints and improve coordination in combating cybercrime.
