Two members of a family were killed and two others injured after the roof of their house collapsed amid heavy rainfall in Swabi’s Azadkhel area, Rescue 1122 officials said.
Rescue 1122 Swabi spokesperson Luqman Khan said the family was asleep when the roof suddenly caved in. The incident alerted nearby residents, who informed the rescue service and began rescue efforts before the teams arrived.
The deceased were identified as 50-year-old Mohammad Fareeq and his 28-year-old daughter. Fareeq’s 45-year-old wife and 30-year-old son, Awais, sustained injuries.
Rescue teams shifted the injured and the bodies to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Khan said.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 reported responding to several incidents of building collapses across Swabi following heavy rainfall.
No casualties were reported when a bank building collapsed, while two people were rescued and moved to safety in Jarandu Nahr. Five others were also evacuated from Azamabad Chowki.
Rescue officials said more than 300 people had been evacuated to safer locations as flash floods and landslides affected several areas following torrential rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall, with isolated torrential showers, across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swabi, until August 21.
The department has also warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Swabi.
