Four policemen injured in attack on police team in KP’s D.I. Khan

A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kefayat came under attack while travelling near Pota and Al-Amin Farm House, according to a district police spokesperson.

The spokesperson said suspected terrorists opened fire on the police party, prompting officers to return fire and triggering an exchange of gunfire.

During the confrontation, the police vehicle overturned, leaving several personnel injured, the spokesperson added.

District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed said four policemen were wounded in the attack, including one who suffered a gunshot injury. He said all four were in stable condition and out of danger.

Following the incident, a large contingent from the Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines was deployed to the area. Security officials cordoned off the locality and launched a search operation for the attackers.

Earlier this month, at least 14 people were killed and 18 others injured when a suicide bomber detonated himself near the Kabal Police Station in Swat.

The Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), in its Annual Security Report 2025, said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed a sharp rise in violence last year. Fatalities increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025 — an increase of 711 deaths.

The report said the province accounted for more than 82 per cent of the overall increase in fatalities recorded across the country, with violence rising by nearly 44pc year-on-year.
