According to a letter issued by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have sought the deployment of nine Frontier Corps (FC) platoons in Bannu and Lakki Marwat to strengthen security and maintain law and order.
The request includes five FC platoons for Bannu and four for Lakki Marwat.
In Bannu, one platoon has been sought each for the security of the district jail, judicial complex, deputy commissioner’s office, Peshawar High Court’s Bannu Bench and a grid station.
For Lakki Marwat, two platoons have been requested for the district jail, while one platoon each has been sought for the judicial complex and district administration.
Earlier, in a separate letter to the Bannu Regional Police Officer, Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Furqan Bilal had expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the district.
The letter said ongoing protests by the police peace committee, road blockades, aerial firing and alleged threats to police officers had severely restricted the movement of the district administration and judiciary.
It added that the withdrawal of police personnel from sensitive installations, coupled with the possibility of renewed protests, had created an urgent need for alternative security arrangements.
The DPO had requested 450 FC personnel, organised into 10 platoons, for Bannu to protect sensitive installations and respond to any untoward incident.
Police officials said the proposed FC deployment was intended to secure key government installations and enable police personnel to focus on other critical security and law-and-order responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have also issued large-scale transfer and posting orders involving lower-ranking personnel.
