Lahore man sentenced to 10 years in prison for marital rape

According to a warrant of commitment issued by Additional District and Sessions Judge/Special Court (Anti-Rape) Judge Zafar Yab Chadhar, the convict, Muhammad Farooq, was sentenced after being found guilty under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code in a case registered at Kahna police station.

Police had registered the case against Farooq following allegations that he subjected his wife to prolonged sexual abuse, resulting in serious internal injuries that required emergency surgery.

The complaint was lodged by the victim’s father.

The case was initially registered under Sections 377 and 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, following further investigation, Section 377 was dropped and the trial proceeded under Section 376.

The court sentenced Farooq to 10 years’ simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs50,000. In case of non-payment, he will serve an additional six months in prison.

The court also ordered payment of Rs300,000 in compensation to the victim under Section 544-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The warrant, issued on August 28, directed the superintendent of Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat, to take the convict into custody and enforce the sentence in accordance with the law.
