A forensic report in the murder case of Hina Javed has found that DNA samples collected from the victim’s body and the crime scene matched profiles of her domestic worker and husband.
According to the report, DNA samples from the domestic worker matched postmortem swabs collected from Hina’s body. His DNA profile also matched sperm samples, with traces of spermatozoa reportedly found on several items and seminal material detected on stained pieces of carpet.
The domestic worker’s DNA profile also matched several other samples collected from the crime scene, the report stated.
Hina’s husband’s DNA profile was likewise found to match samples recovered from multiple items at the scene, according to the forensic findings.
The report further stated that a Y-STR analysis, a DNA test that examines the Y chromosome, of Hina’s shalwar revealed a mixture of DNA from at least three individuals. Her husband, father-in-law and domestic worker could not be excluded as potential contributors to the mixture.
Hina, a 45-year-old digital media executive, was found dead at her residence in Rawalpindi in August, with police reporting signs of torture. Her husband and domestic worker were arrested as her family accused them of involvement in her murder. Her father-in-law was also questioned during the investigation.
Earlier, Hina’s family had approached the National Commission for Human Rights, seeking its intervention in the case and alleging that the investigation had been compromised.
Last month, the Punjab government constituted a three-member high-powered committee to review the investigation. Hina’s husband and domestic worker have been sent on judicial remand.
The forensic findings form part of the ongoing investigation and do not, by themselves, establish criminal responsibility.
