Oil Tanker Hits Sea Mine in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Say

An oil tanker caught fire after striking a sea mine while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said.

In a statement, the IRGC reported that an explosion occurred aboard the tanker following the collision. No casualties had been reported at the time of the announcement.

The incident comes after another oil tanker reportedly hit a naval mine while travelling along a prohibited route in the strategic waterway.

According to Iranian media reports, the supertanker involved in the latest incident was carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for global energy shipments.

The incident has raised further concerns about maritime safety and the security of oil transportation through the vital waterway.
